Argentum announces version 3 of Argentum Backup, the fastest,
easiest and smallest ergonomic backup software product available for
Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000, and Server. Argentum announces an
important, principal innovation - full and native support for Zip64,
new 64-bit extensions to Zip format, which is used as a standard,
portable way to store personal and corporate backups, reliably and
securely. Argentum Backup works in conjunction with WinZip 9, a
world-famous Zip utility, to back up and restore valuable data on any
Windows desktop or laptop, either at home or in the office.
In addition to supporting the original Zip file format, Argentum
Backup 3 now supports the 64-bit extensions (Zip64) to the Zip file
format, introduced with the release of original WinZip 9. The extended
format lets everyone back up their data in huge Zip backup files of
virtually unlimited size. The original Zip file format limited the
number of member files in a Zip file to 65,535, and the maximum size
of both the Zip file itself and any member item to 4 gigabytes. For
all practical purposes, the 64-bit extended format eliminates all
these restrictions. Argentum Backup 3 remains fully compatible with
the original file format and uses the original Zip format whenever
possible.
